A clown (who bears a striking resemblance to Woody Allen) can’t find his dog, and asks his fellow big top performers “Where’s Pup?” The illustrations by Pierre Pratt are dominated by orange and red, lending the tale vibrancy and warmth. Dayle Ann Dodds’s rhyming dialogue is entertaining (“Howdy, Lee! Howdy Dee! Where’s Pup?” “No clue. Go ask Sue. She’s riding Blue”) and encourages preschoolers to memorize the words. mRb
