“Nighty night, Sleep tight. Don’t let the bedbugs bite,” says a father to his daughter as he tucks her in. His words, intended to settle her, set her active imagination in motion. The “But if they do” line of the rhyme leads the little girl to envision how she would battle the bedbugs if they did bite. Finally, the father invents a refrain which works slumber magic. Marc Mongeau’s lively watercolour illustrations succeed in making potentially scary characters comical in Bill Richardson’s rhyming tale. mRb
