Heather O’Neill (whose novel When We Lost Our Heads is out from HarperCollins Canada), Dimitri Nasrallah (whose novel HOTLINE is out from Véhicule Press), and Ronald Cummings and Nalini Mohabir (editors of the collection The Fire That Time: Transnational Black Radicalism and the Sir George Williams Occupation, out from Black Rose Books) will read from their new books and engage in a Q&A with mRb editor Malcolm Fraser.

HEATHER O’NEILL is a novelist, short-story writer, and essayist. Her most recent bestselling novel, The Lonely Hearts Hotel, won the Paragraphe Hugh MacLennan Prize for Fiction and was longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction and CBC’s Canada Reads. Her previous work, which includes Lullabies for Little Criminals, The Girl Who Was Saturday Night, and Daydreams of Angels, has been shortlisted for the Governor General’s Literary Award for Fiction, the Orange Prize for Fiction and the Scotiabank Giller Prize two years in a row. She has won CBC’s Canada Reads and the Danuta Gleed Award. Born and raised in Montreal, O’Neill lives there with her daughter.

DIMITRI NASRALLAH is the author of four novels, including The Bleeds (2018). He was born in Lebanon in 1977, and lived in Kuwait, Greece, and Dubai before moving to Canada. His internationally acclaimed books have garnered nominations for CBC Canada Reads, the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, and the Grand Prix du Livre de Montréal, and won the Hugh MacLennan Prize for Fiction and the McAuslan First Book Prize. 

RONALD CUMMINGS is Associate Professor of Black Studies and African Diaspora Literatures at McMaster University, Hamilton. NALINI MOHABIR is Assistant Professor of postcolonial geographies at Concordia University, Montreal. They co-edited The Fire That Time, as well as a special issue of the journal Topia on the legacies of the Sir George Williams occupation (forthcoming March 2022). They are members of the Protests and Pedagogy collective.
