Heartbroken, Mr. Kuroki wonders how he can keep his wife from fading away and find ways for her to smile and laugh again. That’s when he decides to turn his farmland into a garden, planting fragrant pink shibazakura to attract bees and butterflies and cutting pathways through the growth for his wife to wander. As news spreads of this magnificent garden, people from all over come to visit, bringing the world to Mrs. Kuroki and carrying her laughter on the wind again.

Anne Renaud’s gentle, loving story is a lesson in kindness, acceptance, and care, depicting how a small gesture can grow to have an enormous impact on someone you love. The delicate illustrations by Ohara Hale provide a soft touch to difficult moments in the Kurokis’ lives, with colourful explosions of pink to mark the path back to happiness and well-being. Readers may even spot the curious cat hidden throughout the book!mRb
