An Island in the Soup (Groundwood Books, $15.95, hardcover, young readers) by Mireille Levert is a treat. The language bubbles over like Sir Victor of the Noodle’s fish soup, a “cheesy swamp full of huge, stinky fish.” The illustrations, full of movement, depict marzipan hedges and chocolate pools that end this tale, happily, with dessert. mRb
