For early teens, Lean Mean Machines by Michèle Marineau is fresh, funny, and entertaining. Nothing is lost in Susan Ouriou’s translation of this short novel, set in Montreal. The likeable characters are well developed; especially appealing is Jeremy, who steals the show with his hilarious narration and general misunderstanding of girls. mRb
