In Linda Bailey’s Goodnight, Sweet Pig (Kids Can Press), little pig number one can’t sleep due to the unwanted swine in her bedroom. When she puts her trotter down and asks the intruding pigs to leave, they are taken aback but nonetheless depart. The author’s text in this bedtime counting book rhymes and flows with natural ease. In the title and text, Bailey makes references to Shakespeare (e.g. Hamlette’s Room, All’s Well that Oinks Well, Porkeo & Juliette). Josée Masse’s lively and vivid acrylic artwork accompanies this charming tale. mRb
