Montreal of Yesterday: Jewish Life in Montreal 1900-1920

In 1947 Israel Medres, a first –generation immigrant and columnist for Montreal’s Keneter Adler (Jewish Daily Eagle), published Montreal of Yesterday: Jewish Life in Montreal 1900-1920. It was a vivid, sometimes humourous account of all aspects of the city’s Jewish life in those years – social, political, cultural, religious. The only trouble was that, until now, it had never been translated from the Yiddish. Medres’ granddaughter, Vivian Felsen, has corrected that situation, and now this first-hand record of a unique community, including many period photographs, is accessible to English readers.
