Smart Shopping Montreal

Sandra Phillips, doyenne of Montreal’s shopping scene, has now brought out the ninth version of her yellow-covered book, known to some as the Shopper’s Bible (there is a French version 8 for $16.95 – Le Consommateur Averti Montreal).

Phillips spends her time browsing so you don’t have to – the book is divided into sections called “The Discounters,” “The Repairmen,” and “The Specialists.” So whether you want international food, second-hand children’s clothes, a list of free concerts, or Army-Navy surplus, here it is, with opening hours, cross- streets, and hints for the truly dedicated shopper. Phillips also has a website (smartshoppingmontreal.com) where she posts updates, and where a subscription to the Smart Shopping newsletter is available. You can buy the book there, too.
